Jumping into the face of Fear

Today I had a chance to practice my Flying Side Kick which I wrote about a few weeks ago during my third maintenance test. It was our annual Open House Celebration at the dojang.

Master P had each of the testing candidates perform one routine from his and her upcoming testing curriculum. I was assigned board breaking which  had me doing my knife hand strike, spin kick, and flying side kick.

Well wouldn’t you know it, I couldn’t help but think of my recent post about my flying side kick where I mentioned the fear I experienced the day of the maintenance test last month. It’s like I jinxed myself.

I wasn’t thinking of getting hurt so much as I just did not feel in step today at all. It was strange. It’s not how you want to feel when you have to perform, but I should be able to use that to my advantage next week during the test.

The whole idea of becoming Black Belt is turning mental. There is a lot of buzz about it around the dojang, naturally and needless to say, expectations are high.

Anyway, it’s fun, the idea, the journey, the experience. I wanted to share this. I will probably do one more post before the test next week. Hopefully I can find time to edit the video too from today’s party.
